Avatar / Zwinky  

An avatar is an Internet user's representation of himself or herself, whether in computer games,or on blogs, forums,  and social networking site. AIM was the first instant-messaging provider to use avatars. Users of AIM commonly refer to avatars as “buddy icons”. Today, many other popular instant-messaging services support the use of avatars, including MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and services such as Google Talk,  Myspace, Xange, Friendster, etc.
